New Policies for Visa

His Majesty's government of Nepal has adopted new Visa Policy effective from .....

Gratis Tourists Visa to Entry Nepal

His Majesty's Government of Nepal has adopted a new policy of visa fee waiver for all tourists visiting the country for a period of 3(three) days or less. Similarly, tourists from SAARC countries namely, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives as well as the People's Republic of China will obtain tourist visa free of charge to enter Nepal. Likewise, His Majesty's Government has decided to grant free Re-Entry visa for any national, who was stayed at least 15 days in Nepal in a visa year (January -December).

Visa Extension

A tourist visa can be extended at the Department of Immigration, Kathmandu or the Immigration Office, Pokhara for a total of 120 days.

If a tourist requires visa extension beyond 120 days, an additional 30-days visa can be granted on reasonable grounds by the Department of Immigration. In one visa year (January to December) a tourist may not stay in Nepal longer than a cumulative period of 120 days.

Extension Fee: US$ 30.00 (thirty) for 30 days. For a visa extension, please attach a photograph with the application form.

Fee for overstay on a Tourist Visa: 100% along with regular visa extension fee. Visa (only for seven day overstay period) can be regularised at the Immigration Office at the exit point within the period of 120 days in a visa year.

Fee exemption: Children under 10 years.

Visa for Other Foreigners other than Tourists

Diplomatic Visa
Who May Apply: Diplomatic Passport holders and their family members
Duration: Reciprocal basis (in the recommendation of their respective Diplomatic Missions).
Issuing Authority: Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, for 30 days, Embassies, Consulates and the Immigration Offices at the entry points in Nepal may issue.
Requirements: Recommendation from the Diplomatic Missions.

Official Visa
Who May Apply: Non-Diplomatic personnel of Missions and their family members; Honorary Nepalese Consul Generals/Consuls and their family members (during the time of their visit to Nepal); Advisers and Specialists working in Nepal under the official agreement and their family members; UN Agencies personnel, UN document holders and their family members; and Personnel working in the International institutions or Regional Organizations in Nepal and their family members.
Issuing Authority: Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For 30 days entry-Embassies and the Immigration Offices at the entry points in Nepal.
Requirements: Recommendation from the Diplomatic Missions.

Study Visa
Who May Apply: Students-Research Scholars, Teachers and their family members.
Duration: Up to one year, however, it can be extended.
Issuing Authority: Director General, Department of Immigration.
Requirements: Recommendation letter from the Ministry of Education; Work Permit for Teachers; Bank Balance; and Seven copies application forms with photographs.

Non-Tourist Visa
Who May Apply: Following foreigners and their family members may apply for this visa: Foreigners, involved in HMG approved economic and social development works; Foreigners, involved in institutions managed by foreign missions; Journalists; Servants of diplomatic /officials visa holders; Employees, involved in firms/companies/institutions/airlines/industries or business sectors; Foreign Passport holders of Nepalese origin; Foreigners working under the agreements for government and NGOs; Foreigners married to Nepalese citizen; Foreigners, involved in the feasibility study of industry or export promotion business ( for 6 month only); and Leader of group tourist ( Tourism promoter).
Duration: Up to one year, however, it can be extended.
Issuing Authority: Director General, Department of Immigration.
Requirements: Recommendation from the concerned Ministry or Department; Work permit (for employees); Seven copies application with photographs; Marriage certificate; and Press pass for journalists as applicable.

Business Visa
Who may apply: Foreign Investors or their authorized agents and their family members; Investors in export business and their family members.
Issuing Authority: Department of Immigration.
Requirements: Certificate of authority; Recommendation from the concerned Ministry/Department; Seven copies of application forms with photographs; A copy of passport including the last Nepalese visa.
Visa Fee: US $ 100.00 or equivalent amount in Nepalese currency for multiple entries visa valid for one year; and US $ 250.00 or equivalent amount in Nepalese currency for multiple entries visa valid for five years.

Residential Visa
Who may apply: Following foreigners and their family members may apply for this visa: Renowned international personalities; Foreigners, providing special contribution to the economic, social and cultural development of the Kingdom of Nepal; Foreign passport holder of Nepalese origin; Investors who invest minimum of 1 million US$ at one time in the Industrial sector; Foreigners, interested to settle in the Kingdom of Nepal without doing any business.
Requirements: Seven copies of application forms with photographs; A copy of passport; A copy of the last Nepalese visa (if was stayed in Nepal); and Bank balance or statement equivalent to US$ 20,000.00 per year (only for those foreigners who are interested to settle down in Nepal, but will not engaged in any type of business).
Application: Nepalese Missions or Department of Immigration.
Issuing Authority: His Majesty's Government, the Ministry of Home.
Renewal authority: Department of Immigration.
Fee: Issuance fee (with multiple entry facilities) US$ 100.
Renewal fee: US$ 50. 00 per year (with multiple entry facilities).

Transit Visa
Who May Apply: Travellers for confirmed tickets for onward journey and person who departed Nepal but denied entry into country of intended travel, passengers of forced landed aircraft.
Duration: 48 hours.
Issuing Authority: Airport Immigration Office.
Visa Fee: US $5.00
