Appeal for Support to Flood Victims
The damage of dams in the Sapta Koshi river in the past two weeks has inundated a large stretch of land in the Sunsari District of Nepal, leaving the entire villages of Sripur, Haripur and Kusaha inundated and four others partially submerged. Fifty thousand people have been affected directly, and thousands of families have been displaced. Much of the basic infrastructures in the affected areas, including roads, telephone lines, electricity poles and water pipes, have been destroyed.
The Government of Nepal has initiated emergency relief operations on a war footing in the affected areas. The displaced families have been relocated in fourteen temporary camps, and basic necessities like food and drugs are being provided through co-ordinated efforts with various organisations. Next in priority is to rehabilitate the displaced families to normal life through relief measures, and to reconstruct the dams, bridges and roads destroyed by the floods. The Government of Nepal seeks the assistance and understanding of all the Nepalese people, including those living abroad, as well as all friends and well-wishers of Nepal living in various parts of the world, in this national endeavour.
The Consulate General of Nepal in Hong Kong therefore requests all interested persons, organizations and business houses of Hong Kong as well as all the Nepalese community associations and organizations, and businessmen, commercial firms, professionals and ordinary Nepalese citizens living in Hong Kong, to lend a helping hand to the Government of Nepal by making donations to the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund.
